Just had this Mp3 player given to me, I know I'm getting on a bit but it doesn't seem very loud, yes I've fiddled with every button/setting etc. Any suggestions for making it louder, new headphones maybe ?

I just got this mp3 player too and the sound is really good. You should not need new earphones as they are not at all bad considering they are standard ones supplied with the player.

The volume control is on the right hand edge. Make sure the Hold switch is not switched on when you adjust the sound as this holds all the settings in place in case you brush against them accidentally and will prevent changes.

Did you download the pdf user manual from the Sony website ? Its pretty detailed and should provide all the info you need.

I have the NWZS638 (8Gb version) and it's plenty loud enough straight out of the box with the standard earphones using vol level 15; anything over 20 is too loud for me. Different 'phones may make a difference but not that much I wouldn't think.

If you want louder headphones, you need to look at the 'sensitivity' rating. Though the vast majority are the same anyways.
