My 17 year old has an endowment policy maturing soon and I wondered what would be the best way of him investing this in the current climate.

Is it really "investing" or, given his age, how about "saving", then that would allow him to use the cash at later date, perhaps for University etc?
If you did mean invest, as in stocks & shares, then he is not old enough yet, needs to be 18Gardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
