Can I set alarm on my laptop?

Is it possible to set my laptop to wake me in the morning or whenever, like we set on a hi fi or TV. I stay away from home at the moment and just have the luxury of my laptop to listen to music-no hifi. I wasted money over two alarm clocks, both them scare me with the shrilly tones. My mobile handset is moody, it has a problem of getting switched off on its own. I bought a radio but again sometimes it starts off with some weird sounds or peoples voice.
Ideal for me would be if I could set my laptop to wake me with the music I choose whenever I set time-can I set it up? What do I have to do?

As Brodel suggests, there are a number of softwares you could use to help you wake up, but, this will only work if you have the laptop left on all night.
There is another way. Basically, instead of "shutting down" your laptop, you put it in hibernation mode. From here, you can schedule a task to run your favourite music player (ie. winamp, windows media player, etc) to play and make it turn on your computer also.
To do this, here are the steps (using windows xp):
1. Goto Control Panel
2. Open Scheduled Tasks
3. Double click "Add Scheduled Task"
4. Click Next
5. Click Browse and select your MP3/WMA/OGG/etc file
6. Select the time you want the file to be played (in your case, daily) and click next
7. Select the time you want the alarm to go off and click next
8. Click next until you get an option to "Open advanced properities for this task when I click finish"
9. Click on the Settings tab
10. Ensure that there is a click in "Wake the computer to run this task"
11. Uncheck the other two options
12. Click Okay

You may be able to turn it off fully. Many BIOS's have wake up functionality. I used to use it at uni.
I'd set my BIOS to switch on the machine at 7:55am (hmmm yeah), it'd boot up and auto login.
I then had a scheduled task in Windows set to run one of my Winamp playlists at 8am. This would give the computer a more than necessary 5mins to boot up.
The only problem I found was that my amplifier needed to be on. To solve that I bought one of those time plugs. I'd leave the amp on at night, but it'd be turned off at the timer plug. The time plug would then switch on at 8am.
I now just use an alarm clock though, find it to be much less hassle and safer."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
