Christmas Saving Scheme 2009

Hi

I am starting to plan for Christmas 2009, and was wondering what the best vouchers saving scheme is, we did save with Farepak and lost a lot of money so dont want to be in that position again. Who are the best and the most secure. Any help greatly received

Thanks:rotfl:

Put money in a bank. At least then it is protected by the government up to 35k. i would think in the current financial climate those type of schemes cannot be relied upon.
Added to that the implications if you pay into one of theor schemes for 'high street store vouchers' too and you are backing a loser.

Failing that a piggy bank, and make yourself a spreadsheet of what goes into it???

The most "secure" place is a bank. You won't need it, but you'll sleep at night knowing you have up to £100K FSCS protection.

Why not consider a regular savings account? Check out this regularly updated post on the savings board...

either a normal regular savings account, or a designated xmas savings account, for instance skipton building society does one and you can open online
    MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..
  • Agree with all the above. I put a fixed sum away each month into a bank account which pays me interest at the year end. I know that it's safe (famous last words) or certainly when compared to some of these 'savings' clubs going around/bust. The money is locked away and then you can see it grow over the months/weeks. Best of luck.

I put away £50pm into a regular saver - I opened the Halifax one back in the summer and am getting 10% interest

I have opened a savings account, starting from January I am putting £10 away for xmas 2009.
Don't do savings stamps, provy vouchers and Park et al, they are a waste of space and you are not protected, I think we should have a betting thread on which firm is going under next!
