Returning boots from Amazon that don't fit

  • I've returned many pairs of shoes and boots to Amazon because they don't fit ( and I say the reason why on returns form). I pay the postage at Post Office and when I receive my refund from Amazon, it always includes the postage that I've paid.
Not sure if its an official thing but ive talked to a few people about this now, two people have both returned boots/shoes to amazon. They said theyve never had a problem returning for free, return as "Faulty" and the fault is "They do not fit properly" or something similar. I think you can print out pre-paid postage labels off amazon so its worth a try.

I have wide feet and big calves :o and last year I got some tall boots they would not do up. I loved them and they fitted fine in the feet so I wore them under trousers with the top 10 cm still undone. Over time (a few weeks ) as the boots streched then I was able to do them up, even easily after a while.....might be worth a try?
  • Was buying boots in Clarks once and received this advice. Push the leg down so that it is gathered around the ankle and the boots go about 3/4 the way up your leg. You need to zip them up as far as you can and then push them down and continue zipping. Need to be careful with the zip so go slowly. Works a treat. Have successfully worn boots like that for a long time as like you my feet are std fitting but wide legs.
  • I have the same problem, and find I have to point my toes (once the boots are on) as it makes my calf muscles stretch and so there's less of a problem. That said, it does mean the boots NEVER fall down once they're on.

Perhaps you could Ebay them if there's really no hope?

I admire your honesty, it's very refreshing!

I have never said they are faulty - just where it says 'reason for return' I have put - too big, small etc
  • A bit off topic but if you have larger calves I can recommend Legroom boots from ShoeTailor.com, they come in three calf fittings as well as different foot width fittings. Either that or Evans do a nice range of boots (unluckily I inherited my mother's calves!)

I have thick calves and i did even when i was a size 8/10 (oh the days...). The only boots i've ever tried on that fit comfortably were from Evans.
  • As a few people have replied and said that they have returned without problem, I may try that option but as I really like the boots, I am going to see if can get them on a bit better by warming the boots so are a bit more supple - was very cold when I got them this morning so maybe why were so stiff! :p

Anyway am hoping that can sort something out as I really want to keep them (did I mention that they were under £25 reduced from about £90?:p ) and are now out of stock at Amazon so can't exchange anyway! If it doesn't look like I can't get them to do up then I will find a good home for them - maybe even offer on Amazon! (thanks to lowbrim for the idea)

Mind you I have never sold anything on ebay or amazon before! Who knows it may even be the start of something lucrative!:D :money: :D

I have used Amazon for a quite a few items and they have been very good at delivering promptly for free and excellent prices!

If the boots were genuinely faulty, I would have no problem in saying so and returning. But as is a question of fit, the 'fault' does not make the item unuseable just not fit for my purpose.

Most shops where you don't have the opportunity to try on first would (in my experience anyway) offer a refund.

I didn't think about returning them before ordering tbh, just assumed that wouldn't be a problem and when I tried to find the appropriate heading to return, I couldn't see which would be best: so thought I would ask here as lots of people have used Amazon previously and be able to clarify which is the best way to return without paying postage upfront.

While I appreciate the good intention of the posters, I can't bring myself damage something that is perfectly good condition, just to get out of paying return postage! If I cannot find a use for the boots or cannot get Amazon to collect/refund postage I will have to stump up and learn to be a bit more careful when I order online in future.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions on ways to make the boots fit :T - I am off to try! Fingers crossed that this discussion will be academic and I will be able to fit into my bargain boots!:D
