Returning boots from Amazon that don't fit

Hi!
I bought a pair of boots from Amazon at a bargain price but unfortunately I can't zip them up fully as they don't fit around my calf!

Haven't had to return anything to Amazon so far but wondered if I will have to pay for postage or will they collect foc? There was nothing on the description that indicated the size measurement round the calf and they looked ok in the pic (yeah I have chubby legs! but not had problem with boots before!) Cost less than £25 so don't want to have to pay to return really! Am very disappointed as they were perfect otherwise - lovely colour and shape and just the right height heel!

Has anyone returned shoes or boots that don't fit but are otherwise fine to Amazon? Couldn't find anything on their returns policy about things that don't fit only defective - does that cover it or will I need to pay for return?

  • The Returns Policy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=502480&qid=1230551910&sr=1-1
If you use a personalised pre-paid return label, we will deduct the return postage from your overall refund.
Please remember that normal returns criteria apply and that the refund will not include the cost of returning the item to us or giftwrapping costs unless the return is due to an error on our part.

    Sorry it doesnt look good.

If you still wish to return go to The Returns Support Centre: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/css/returns/homepage.html

One good thing is even if it was a gift (you didnt purchase it) you can still return in exchange for e-vouchers and they dont notify the original buyer (so no one gets upset or annoyed!)

Returns are only free if the item is faulty or was sent out in error etc. In other words, if it is being returned because of a fault at Amazon's end.

If there's nothing actually wrong with the item itself then you need to cough up to return I'm afraid.

  • Oh dear! Think the return will cost more than the boots! Pity as they are lovely otherwise - fit on my feet fine! Probably why they were reduced in the first place! May as well see if any of my friends wants to buy them off me rather than return.
    Thanks for your help.
  • Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate you are trying to help but I am not looking at deliberately damaging them - the boots are fine, fit my feet but just don't fit my legs !:o

If I had had the chance to try on I would not bought them but not being a boot wearer normally, I just didn't think about the fit at the calf! Will not make the same mistake again!

I will try to find a good home for them - at the price I paid, I am sure someone will buy them off me! I wouldn't damage them as I feel that would be wrong of me and also then no-one will be able to use them!

    Thanks again anyway.

You jest, but it may be worth a quick bit of sabotage :p Try removing one of the zip tabs or something, but don't leave any noticeable plier marks.

Hmm this is why a lot of genuine people (buyers & sellers) have problems on sites such as Amazon and Ebay. What happened to honesty in this country?? The only thing I would say is that cheets and liars never prosper you always end up losing out three fold in the long run through bad luck one way or another!!

I agree with your sentiments entirely. Honesty is always the best policy.
Why not put them back on Amazon to sell. I thank you for not letting this post end up as one for how to rip of someone. Happy New Year.

You could try stretching them if they are leather.
Steam the part that needs stretching on the wrong side few a few minutes (over a kettle) then get someone to pull tightly with you (tug-of war style!)
Sounds risky but I used to work in a shoe shop many years ago and we used to do it all the time.
Just dion't force the zip - if they still won't do up, repeat the process.

I think Timpsons the shoe repair kiosks do boot stretching or try your local shoe repair place.
  • I've returned many pairs of shoes and boots to Amazon because they don't fit ( and I say the reason why on returns form). I pay the postage at Post Office and when I receive my refund from Amazon, it always includes the postage that I've paid.
