ipod help

Hello in the hope someone can help us!

We recently bought an ipod and everything was fine, we converted our cd's to the itunes library - I did this on the laptop and soon filled up the c drive...so I thought it would be a good idea to delete the itunes library so I could carry on downloading.

Now I have all the tracks on the ipod and I don't seem to be able to add to the ipod any longer, everything is greyed out - I don't want to sync with the 'new library' as I will have to do everything again....

What have I done?!....

Can I download all the contents of the ipod to back up?...(have read help on how to do this but it doesn't work as everything is greyed out)...

How do I sort it out so it's like it all was before I (stupidly...) deleted the first library?
