    whilst there is no obligation to sell at a price, the law is quite clear that pricing should be clear and not misleading, which does appear to be the case in you situation. This is very different from the common !!!!-ups where a £1000 item has been advertised for a £1 - As the average person can see that this clearly an error. You should contact Trading Standards at your local council with what ever proof you have of the £499 price.

    It was a mistake, mistakes happen! Trading Standards will not be interested in a one off error.

    kwackerjeff, I wouldn't bother ringing JL Direct as their call centre staff have little authority, and tend to be very unwilling to escalate complaints. If you write to head office they may be willing to give you something back (possibly not the whole amount, but better than nothing) as a goodwill gesture. They are very good at giving goodwill gestures. ;)

    Whilst they have a right to charge more at point of sale you also have the right to reject the new revised price

    If its a mistake fair enough they happen but they just cant charge you more before sending goods out
  • Have a look at the Misleading Price Indication rules....pretty much a store cannot charge one price, and then hike it up at the till.

    Unfortunately, with online sales, stores normally safeguard against price mishaps within their T&Cs and a contract is not made until they take your money, but since this was a promotion that overran due to a computer fault it seems very unfair of John Lewis to not honour their original price (even if they are legally in the right).
