Rented house and unwanted furniture

hi,

I live in a rented shared house. The room I have is relatively small and comes with furniture included. There are two wardrobes in the room; one built-in and a free standing one. The free-standing one is empty and I dont have enough stuff to use it so I was wondering what the to do about getting it moved? Its very big (double cupboard) and I dont see anywhere obvious to put it (the celler leaks if it rains heavily although Ive never been here when it happens so dont know how bad). I'm not sure whether it would be ok to ask him to take it or what? What do other LL do?

Thanks

Jen

  • Depends on LL, but I suspect most wont want to move furniture, especially if it's large. They'll need to store it for the next person who rents the room. If they've moved extra furniture in since you viewed the room you may have more of a case, you can try asking, just dont be surprised if they say no.

it is certainly worth just asking the LL. I am a LL and would agree to this sort of request no problem.

Some landlords will say yes and others will say no.

If you don't ask you will never know.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • if they have other properties they may move it there - worth asking anyway. our last landlord had the manyana attitude - we asked for all furniture to be removed before we moved in but there were still 2 wardrobes and 3 beds in our old house when we finally got there. he said he would come and take them away but never did in the full year we were there, in the end i wrapped them up and put them in the garage which he claimed he would fix the roof of for a year. if they got damp its his problem lol.
  • thanks my LL is pretty good and has a fair few other houses so maybe he could re-locate it ....

I hope so because I have no where else to put it and it in the way of having a properly organised bedroom.
