Do you feed your local fox?

Is it wrong of me to feed the fox that comes into my garden?

He/She has been coming every night to eat scraps that i leave out for them, sometimes it 1 other times like tonight 2 of them come.

They both look really well fed a lovely thick shiny coat and bushy tail so i dont think its only me that feeds them.

anyone else feed their local fox?
My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

I can spell...................I just cant type:confused:

  • It's fine to feed them, but remember they'll be where food is & they breed, so you could end up with a fair few! On animal 24:7 the other day they had a fox cub & were releasing it back where it's family were & the Wildlife man said the locals are good here & feed them. They don't attack people or other animals unless provoked so enjoy them!

i used to feed my local foxes - they are quite tame, you can sit about 3 feet from them as they eat, basically close enough to reach out and stroke them (never have tried, never would!).

i was then told that feeding the foxes makes them tame (someone had obviously got there before me) and makes them less wary of humans...so then when the council sends 'pest control' out to deal with them...they are easily caught. i was also told that they pose a risk to cats as they can attack them...not sure just how true this is...but both the above bits of information stopped me from feeding them again. i just admire them from afar now.
  • I used to feed them when I had chickens...

    ... well, they helped themselves!:rotfl:

  • cor blimey - she sounds a bit eccentric - probably as well she hasnt got a gun - I used to have an elderly aunt who was forever shooting people out of the attic window!!

Foxes are not likely to go for a cat - urban foxes are far more interested in dustbins and rabbit hutches!

My cats are all too lazy to go out at night, or during the day if they can avoid it

Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is yellow tonight,
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is mellow and bright,
There’s a coyote crying at the moon above,
Carry me back to the one I love,
And you old faithful pal of mine.

Cats apparently aren't at risk from foxes, the Wildlife guy (See how much daytime tv educates!) said something about they just ignore each other & that when so many foxes were opened up after death only three had any trace of cat fur in their stomach & it was more likely because they'd both eaten from the same bin bags or whatever than the fox had eaten the cat! Mine goes out at night & has done for the almost 9yrs i've had her & only once to my knowledge has she had an issue with a fox, one youngster, maybe a year old, came out at about 6pm one summer from the park & the cat chased it off lol. Foxes just ain't bothered bout em!
