I think you should stop getting any extra money after the second kid. If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em.
Birthrate in sink estates would drop like a stone. I'm related to some of these people: I'm not hatin', I'm just sayin'.0 -

The system must be improved to rid society of the selfish 'I'm no worse off sat on my a...'. Get some self respect.
GG
Society is just an amalgamation of individuals. If we all say to those that are 'dole bludgers', get off your rrrrrrrse and get yourself a job then perhaps they will. If we all say to DBs 'Ha ha, nice one. You gamed the system pretty well there my son' then they're less likely to.
The thing that got me about the UK was this sense of entitlement people had. Unless that cycle is broken then at some point the country is bankrupt as more people will be taking than giving.0 -
The problem with getting people off benefits is that many are "passported". For example, if you claim Jobseekers or Income Support, you almost automatically qualify to receive Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, the full rate of Child Tax Credit if you have kids, etc. To get people off of these benefits means you need to find them a job that pays them enough to both live on and pay their rent, council tax, etc that had previously been paid for them. Even with the advent of Working Tax Credit, sometimes earning enough to make ends meet working is either impossible or much more difficult than remaining on benefits. I actually know a lady who was legitimately claiming disability benefits but actually wanted to work and she was advised by the JobCentre that she would be worse off working as she would lose or have at least reduced entitlement to the above mentioned passorted benefits and certain disability benefits.
Proof that benefits are too high.
They shouldn't be more than the minimum wage, thats an awful insult to some of our hardest workers:mad:0 -
The 'gummint' can buy all the unemployment it is willing to pay for!
The higher benefits get, the more taxes have to rise to pay for them and the easier it becomes to live on benefits. More and more people find that paid employment does not pay much more than their benefits, and so benefits become a way of life. And so taxes rise again and more people find that paid employment isn't worth it, and the cycle continues until benefits are reduced or the country collapses under it's parasitic weight.0 -
One of the largest abuses of the system is the automatic right to a house or flat by simply producing babies.
I have long advocated an end to this. Build hostels with shared facilities (shared kitchens bathrooms playrooms etc) and make this the only guaranteed accommodation.
Producing babies in exchange for flats would quickly stop!0 -

It's true. The thing is, usually there comes a point when the payers say, "Enough, we'll pay no more". However, when things hit crisis point as seems possible or even likely right now, so many payers are tossed into the position of being receivers that the balance flips.
Potentially then you're in the same position as Argentina or something finds itself insomuch as the recipients are a large enough group to repeatedly bankrupt the payers and that's a situation that's been going on since the late C19th in Agrentina. Argentina could have reasonably been in the same position as the US after WW1 if things had gone slightly differently.0 -
It ain't the case anymore, if an 18 y/old living with parents is in 'the family way' no flat is offered as of right.
Building hostels sounds like you want a return to the poor house, I sure you don't but that's how it reads. Purpose built hostels (as they would need to be) would cost an absolute fortune. Also they can only be used by one user group.
Better and cheaper to actually build more general needs public sector housing."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".

Better and cheaper than what, please?
This estate in Elephant and Castle was pretty pricey and is now a very horrible bit of South London. IMO.0 -

Why should I work to pay tax to bring up other peoples kids?
This idea of "fairness" I keep hearing Labour speaking about is driving me insane.
Our society has been turned into
"survival of the THICKEST"
Single mothers who breed and breed and suck the life out of our country by creating generations of moochers and workshys.
Unbelievable!!
Whilst some people are working hard to provide a good life for their kids to pay the 2 thirds of people on incapacity benefit who aren't entitled to claim it!! (from the article and many other sources before anyone complains)
Labour is going to collapse this country by giving everyone their "entitlements".
Why don't they have some self respect for themselves, get up off their !!!!! and do a days work?
There would be far less unemploment in this country if we changed our mindset from;
"what am I entitled to?"
to
"what can I do?"
Erm not all single mothers are like that, some become single parents because of other circumstances, for example, they are widowed, they are divorced or they are abandoned.
Quite a few single parents also work.
Some single parents are unable to work because of care duties to disabled children/parents etc....same as some single people without children.
Some single parents are doing everything they can to get back into employment (some against the odds) and already have the mind set of "What can I do"
In short, not all single parents are workshy or after claiming what they can from the tax payer. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Hi all, newbie to posting, although Ive ben a "lurker" for some time.
My View is at some time in our working lives we will all need some kind of financial assistance from the taxpayer(your very fortunate if you dont). My thinking is we should all be allowed say 6yrs of "taxpayers" help during our working lives,as soon as youve had your "quota" your on your own Jack.To me that gives us all the incentive to work.Or "benefits" should be proportionate to the amount of NI stamps youve paid in.If you dont pay in you dont get out.....
Ive lived on council estates all my life,im self employed earn what I consider a decent wage,If I cant afford it ,I dont buy it.I can say from personal experience that benefit fraud is rife, since people dont have to "sign on" in person they can work and claim as no-body in the community knows who,s claiming. This is especially true in small towns and villages. Then when you do "bubble" the claimants nothing is done...Fact !!....0
