Bank charges question

Options
Hi Im new to this site and a bit confussed about the bank charges issues. I have read through the threads but because there is so much information Im getting a bit lost.
I have a Card cash account with Halifax and because of bad money management (and because I spend too much money on smoking) I get bank charges made to my account about twice a month for £39 each. The bad money management and the smoking are stopped or in the process of stopping because of the great advice of this site.
Is it the case that I can get these back? They happen when direct debits get bounced which leaves me less money for the next month and on goes the cycle.
I know I being a bit dim because there is oddles of advice on this topic but I havent found a thread from someone with the same basic account (no overdraft facitily) that I have.
Thanks for any help and I promise to get to grips with the site better so Im not asking such daft questions.

  • Hi and welcome. Basically yes, regardless of your type of account, you can reclaim these charges. Read through this thread

It may take some time, but it will give you a good insight into what is happening.

Opened my post this morning the Nationwide have refunded me £90 in bank charges. They had until Friday so they were a bit ahead of themselves. They did point out that it was a good will gesture one off occassion etc. They also said they understood how I felt about the charges!! Well if they do it again I will quote this back to them.
