Aol And Paypal Nightmare - Help Please!!

Hi Everyone. On 4.10.08 I discovered that I could not access my Paypal account and to date, I STILL cannot access it - I use it for my ebay buying and selling. I have been in constant contact with AOL about this and they keep telling me its a server problem which they are working on. Apparently in October the whole server went down and some sites are still not accessible to some users, mine happens to be Paypal - my way of making a bit of extra cash. I sent them a recorded delivery letter in October stating all the phone calls I had made (over £20 worth!)and asked for someone to sort it out. Despite being allocated an adviser who is supposed to contact me weekly to keep me informed (he has contacted me three times in total in response to MY emails!) I am still no further forward. I cannot access it via internet explorer either. Its getting beyond believeable now and unfortunately I'm tied in until April. Has anyone any advice please? I've missed out on all the Christmas selling I could have done as I have had to use someone else's computer who isn't with AOL to access my Paypal account! Incidentally Paypal can't help either. Help me pleeeeeasssseeeeee!!!

Hi Thomas - thanks for that. Had a look, but am a bit cautious as its my banking website I want access to and going via a third party makes me a bit nervous! But thanks anyway for taking the time to reply - much appreciated. AOL did suggest going via 'vtunnell' but I can't get through on that either. Thanks again Thomas.0

Do you just get page cannot be displayed?
Try CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Download, install make sure to un tick yahoo toolbar during the installation then once its open press Run Cleaner make sure all the browsers are closed. It will remove all your cookies unless you tell it otherwise (the tick boxes on the side).
Go to My Computer>C:/>Windows>System32>Drivers>Ect then double click on hosts and open it with notepad and make sure paypal isn't on the list.
You may also want to run Malwarebytes to be sure its not some sort of spyware blocking access to it.
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from hereand just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Have you tried clearing the cookies?
try FIREFOX instead of IE
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
I certainly 2nd a scan with MALWAREBYTES in case your computers infected though (And of course do that 1st as you done WANT to be getting onto banking sites if the computers infected obviously):idea:0 -
Hi Thomas and aliEnRIK - gosh you two sound like you know what you're on about (unlike me!!). I've had two things ocurring when trying to log in. The first one I just couldn't get onto Paypal, the page just kept freezing when trying to load. Yesterday, I was able to get the page up, put in my email and password in but then it wouldn't load. When this problem first happened, Paypal went through the process the same time as I was and they could see I was logged in from their side, but on my screen it was still trying to load. I have tried to clear the cookies but not via Firefox, so I'll give that a go and when I've printed off Thomas' advice, I'll give that a go too. Thank you both very much for taking the time to help. Keep yer fingers crossed for me!0

Thank you Thomas and aliEnRIK, but nothing worked! got back to AOL and they gave me a number to call after going through things again and again - guess what? It was the telephone number to PC World! Apparently AOL refer at least 100 customers A DAY to them with queries that obviously they can't help with as its internet/server problems with AOL and the majority of the people (like me) haven't even bought the computers off them anyway. I still can't believe the incompetence of AOL employees - any employee of AOL who would like to contact the forum with a useful reply would be most welcome (but I won't hold my breath). Thank you again for trying.0

ALL of my aol experiences have been bad. I personally wouldnt touch them with a VERY long bargepole.......:idea:0

Hi aliEnRIK. I haven't had too many problems, but the ones I have had are MAJOR! When I first had a new computer with Vista on, I ended up abandoning it for a whole six months and went back to my old XP one as it was so uncompatible with AOL. I am tied in till April or it will cost me £28 to leave. Sounding more attractive with everyday that comes! AOL - All Obviously Loosers!0

£28 would seem a small price to pay to get away from AOL.;)0
