Ful service? Cambelt change? Help required.

Hi all. Just purchased a 2001 plate Renault Scenic 1.6. Got it cheap with no service history. Just wondering what the best course of action would be. Should I have a full service and timing belt etc changed? If so am I best going through a main dealer?

The car seems ok but would like it fully checked as no history.

Any and all advice on what I should do would be great.

Back street maybe, but insist on OE parts, definately! 2yr guarantee and better quality.

And instruct the garage to fit the full kit, ie tensioner pulleys and water pump if it is applicable to your particular car. These items frquently fail before the belt itself, or cause the belt to fail. No good doing half the job as the labour will be little more unless you have to have it done a 2nd time:money:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Thanks for the replies. I've had a quote from an independant garage to do the cam kit and water pump for £250. He said this includes a 1 year guarantee for parts and his work. Seemed geniune and the garage was recommended. Any comments on the quote. A service will be extra.

Sounds fair to me, and I think to anyone who doesn't do their own repairs, it would sound very good,:T :T :T :T
