Ikea worktop problem - advice please!

Don't forget that they have been known to pay a mileage amount, for your travel costs.
Might be worth asking what their current policy is!

Ooh, thanks for that vansboy  - I'll be doing a good 25 mile round trip at least, not to mention that I had to buy a couple of tubes of colorfill to try and disguise the scratches. Although it didn't work very well!. :rolleyes:0

Right folks - quick update for anyone who might be slightly interested!
Went today, shaking like a leaf (Soooo not good at confrontation!) and a lovely girl - Danielle served me, issued a refund on the 2 pieces that I took back and that was that!
I asked about refunding my installation and other costs (petrol etc) and she told me that I need to write to the store manager about it.
I was going to ask to speak to him/her there and then, but as I have to go back again to take 2 more pieces back (the ones with the hob and sink in, that I can't do without at the mo, as I don't have a replacement worktop ordered yet!), I decided to type the letter in a bit and then hopefully by the time I take the others back in a week or so, the manager will have read my letter and decided what to do.
So, thumbs up to the usually stroppy CS dept at Ikea (in my experience!) :beer:0 -
As they've been OK, in response to your problem, I hope you'll consider one of their other worktops, for the replacement - only fair!!

Hi VB,
Unfortunately they don't have one that I want, else I certainly would.
I've decided to go mad and go down the granite route now (and max out my C/C in the process!) but I want one of those black sparkly jobbys and Ikea not only don't sell them, but if they did then they only sell them as part of a full kitchen installation - which I've already done myself!
It's the same with B&Q (where I work) and Wickes too - you have to have the installation for some reason and can't buy them separately - even with much pleading to my own bosses!
So I'm in the process of trawling the net for advice and quotes! I did put another post on here yesterday asking for help with it, but not many replies yet.
I did still manage to spend £60 in Ikea though - on things I prob neither need or really want! :rotfl:!!!
Thanks again though! :beer:0 -
Look for the posts by Doozergirl - she knows her stuff & sources for granite - we'd have had it apart from £2500 price - & I think it'll be ashame when it all ends up in the skip, next time someone decides on a more 'in' surface!!
It'll look posh though!!

Thanks VB, I've been having a nosey at Doozergirls posts actually!
She used a firm that look really good and come in at £2000 for what I want, BUT there are many of eBay shops who can also do it for about £1500 or even less - it's just now a matter of doing my homework to ensure that I don't get a duff seller!
And of course cheapest isn't always the best
With you on the skip comment though - someone posted a similar point on my actual granite enquiry thread - food for thought, but like you say - it will look very posh!

Hi I went into ikea today to buy the matt black work top and it has been removed from sale .. they said they were looking for a new supplier, so def something wrong with the worktops.0

My understanding on the Ikea warranty on appliances is that they would send somebody out to you to inspect and replace an item for you. The same probably applied to the work tops, so they would have handled all the refitting for you.0
