Advice on returning a contract item please

I purchased a 3G modem for my laptop from PC world today, the guy assured me it would work in my area based on a computer scan of my post code.
It does not have a signal, and have since found out that no 3G item ever works at my location (friends mobile phones ect)
I have already signed the 18 month contract and of course plugged the item in.
Can I get a refund / get out of the contract do you think?
I would be grateful for any advice anyone can give me on this.
Thanks

Return it under SOGA - Not fit for purpose0

My main concern was on the returns policy:
We cannot cancel your purchase when:
1. There is a contract for services with the product and you have started using the services (this would
include e.g. a mobile phone subscription, but not an extended warranty service agreement);
2. The seal has been broken on any software including games; or
Think the SOGA will still be applicable?0 -
The returns policy will also state "this does not effect your statutory rights", which in this case is the SOGA.0

You haven't started using the services as it couldn't connectCross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0

Just to let you know:
I took it back, they argued so I quoted the SOGA and they immediately began to co-operate and canceled my agreement.
Thank you all so much for your advice, Otherwise I may not have had the confidence to argue

Makes me laugh how different stores can be when the customer shows a piece of knowledge. Nice one0
