Fridge freezer - Which is a Good Make?

Hi,
My Indesit fridge freezer went on the blink about a year after I bought it. Now, four and a half years later, it really is time to look for a new one. Obviously I won't be buying Indesit but can anyone recommend another brand? I've had a look on this board and have seen that Whirlpool have been given a slating for terrible customer service so that rules them out, too. Hotpoint are a known brand and their fridge freezers look great but they seem a bit expensive. I've found a Samsung one which is reasonably priced in the sale - does anyone know whether they are a good make?

Difficulty with looking at reviews is that fridges are supposed to last for years and years so it's difficult to know if they are any good because people tend to write reviews very soon after buying them.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

    Most appliance engineers say,

"steer clear of Hotpoint and Samsung etc. Lieberr, Bosch, Zanussi are the ones to go for..."

That's what I have been told anyway!

Fridges are really quite simple devices (compared with washing machines or dishwashers), so I've tended to spend relatively little on them and have had two Hotpoints in recent years, with no problems.

I need a bigger one now (new house) and as I intend to stay here will bite the bullet and buy the best I can afford. All the recommendations I've had say Liebherr or Bosch and as Bosch is cheaper (and I've had fantastic service from a Bocsh washing machine and dishwasher) I'll probably go for one of theirs.

    Hope that helps.

Myself, my parents and some friends have Bosch - the oldest is getting on for seven years now with no problems so far.

My grandparents have a hotpoint fridge freezer that is getting on for 40 years old! They don't make em like they used to!

Just a word of warning...avoid Beko fridge/freezers. Ours packed up just after a year and needed a new compressor. Customer service was absolutely dire and although i did manage to persuade them to fix it free-of-charge after much persistance i would never buy anything from Beko ever again! Do a search on beko here and you'll find the full story and a few other disgruntled Beko customers amongst us!

Alot of the recommendations i got when i thought i would need a replacement for the Beko were for zanussi....the independent refrigeration engineer repairing the beko recommended the same..saying it was one of the brands with the fewest callouts he had.

The difference is in the build quality, the quality of the compressor used, the pipework, the insulation, the efficiency and very importantly the plastics.

We sell a lot of plastic shelves, milk trays etc. for a lot of machines, especially the cheap ones but we don't sell many for Liebherr or the pukka Yankee fridges because, quite simply they're better.

Beko's, Hotpoint, Samsung, LG and a host of others are great for me as we sell parts when they break. ;)

  • Ive already got a fridge, hotpoint, but want a freezer too. Should i get a whole new fridge freezer and sell my hotpoint (freebie from aunt) or buy a freezer by itself (wont look as good as will only fit on top or under existing fridge??).
