Had my Amex a year now. When the cash back reduced from 1% to 0.5 per cent I stopped using it and have been using another which gives 1% for first 2k. Kept the AMEX open just to get my cash back. Cashback now credited and spent. Called AMEX to cancel card and told them the only reason was the loss of the 1% down to 0.5%. Was transferred to someone who offered me £10 not to close my card. 0.5% of 2k = £10 so said OK. Keeping my card for the moment. Will use the 1% CB one till 2k reached. The use Amex and try to get past the first 2k thus getting to the 1% after that!

My tack was that I wanted to apply for a 0% card instead & was promptly put through to a very nice man who was able to offer me 0% for 6 months on my full credit limit.

Thanks for this post - it's reminded me to open a Leeds & Holbeck (Morgan Stanley) account to go with my Morgan Stanley account - to double up on the cashback £2,000 limit at 1%. Hope I get accepted!0
