This may have been posted somewhere else but this is on their website:-

Q: I have a Zavvi gift voucher, can I redeem it?

It is expected that all customers who purchased zavvi gift vouchers from zavvi stores from 27 November 2008 will receive a full refund in respect of the unredeemed value of the gift vouchers. Unfortunately, it is not possible for vouchers to be redeemed in stores.

All customers who have unredeemed vouchers acquired since 27 November 2008 should write to the Joint Administrators at the following address, quoting their voucher number(s), enclosing the original voucher(s) and quoting their full name and address for return correspondence:

    zavvi Vouchers
c/o The Joint Administrators of zavvi Group
    Ernst & Young LLP
    100 Barbirolli Square
    Manchester
    M2 3EY

We recommend that customers keep a copy of vouchers for their records.

Regrettably, it will not be possible to refund vouchers acquired prior to 27 November 2008. Customers with unredeemed vouchers acquired prior to 27 November 2008 should write to the Joint Administrators at the above address, asking for their claim to be registered as an unsecured claim.

Please note, due to the large volumes of vouchers that are currently outstanding it is not possible to discuss individual customer queries in person at this stage

  • I predict a riot....

I predict one day soon ill witch on the tv to find a mass vigalanty sitaution.....if i had of recieved vouchers id feel like taking the goods off the shelf and throwing the voucher at them (or to be more polite maybe posting it to them lol)

If every single person who bought or was given a voucher over christmas (etc...) arranged to meet in the zavvi stores across the country all at the same time, pick up theyre dvds etc and proceed to wads the door leaving theyre cards at the cash desk no power could stop them.

On a more constructive note.... in the future when wanting to send vouchers (and the only reason i buy them for people is to ensure the money isnt wasted in the pub etc) try topping up a splashplastic card or one of the cash-visa thingys?? I dont know much about these but surely these will be safer options in the future!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Please remember it is not the Zavvi management that made the decision not to accept the vouchers, it was the administrators.

I feel sorry for anyone caught up in this, but it just goes to show that buying gift vouchers is a stupid idea. At best, gift vouchers tie you into having to spend your money at a very limited number of stores, and at worst, you could lose your cash altogether. The best gift vouchers are those widely accepted ones issued by the Bank of England, the ones with the Queens head on.

I agree, I can understand why people are upset about this. Even Woolies were still accepting gift vouchers last week.

I fear I may have been misunderstood. I was not intending to intimidate staff at Zavvi (I'm only 5' so not v. threatening!) I just thought that individually we would not have any sway - but collectively we would have more impact and the media may take up the story and this may prompt Zavvi administrators to extend their voucher redemption scheme to vouchers purchased before 27.11.08.

I've never bought vouchers myself but my children do receive them from distant relatives - we can hardly tell elderly aunts that they are stupid from buying them.

If the public are made aware by collective protest that Zavvis is not honouring the vouchers (as did Woollies I understand) then a demo would serve a purpose & provide a warning to others not to buy them in future.

As I say - if the protests were organised then a large retailer may feel they could offer a rescue package.

Appreciate these are only small sums individually but collectively do feel peeved that big businesses are allowed to get away with this - as other posters have stated - they've had the money - they should allow us the goods. I thought my suggestion bridged the gap between the "grab the goods and slap the voucher on the counter" suggestions & was never meant to be confrontational - I did say "peaceful protest" - of course I feel for the Zavvi staff who are losing their jobs but big businesses shouldn't feel they can do this - I wonder what the sums involved are?

The other point is - the news on the internet seems to suggest that Zavvi in Eire is not yet under administration and I wonder if anyone knows whether that means the vouchers could still be redeemed in Eire (the Northern Ireland stores fall under the auspices of the United Kingdom so are under administration) - if this is the case - time for everyone to get in touch with distant relatives in Eire??

I doubt it, for starters your voucher will be in £ and the RoI stores will be in € (I know it is nearly €1 for £1). I doubt they will entertain that idea. What does the voucher say?
  • Hi Jayok
Unfortunately the vouchers are actually gift cards so it doesn't explicitly state that they are only reedeemable in the UK - the other problem of course is that individuals can't check their balances on the Zavvi website - I suppose there are terms and conditions on there but when I last looked the website wasn't offering up answers regarding the gift vouchers/cards.
  • I dont have a Zavvi gift card to check this with but I went into the .IE site, followed it through to the UK one. Clicked on gift certificates and near the end it allows you to click and a box pops up to enter your codes to check balances.

I might be totally wrong, if so sorry. Would check it works but dont have a card so no number to enter.
