Is the garage responsible?
Hi
Please bear with me as I know nothing about cars im just going on what ive been told.
Just over a month ago our car needed a new engine, we bought the engine, garage picked it up and fitted it for us.
Now earlier this week my husband finds out the engine has come off its mounts and was has he put it "is trying to jump out of the car as he is driving", it has since gone back on to its mounts again, but obviously there is something wrong as it just shouldn't do this.
I was just wondering if anyone could advise us, would the garage be responsible as they fitted the engine?
My husband is at work tomorrow and has left me and his dad with the job of taking it to the garage.
Thanks

Yes 100%
The engine sounds like it has not been bolted onto the 'Manifold' correctly?
Take it back ASAP.

Good Luck.
Erm, it sounds like worn engine mounts to me
the manifold shouldnt really have much to do with it0 -
if an engine comes off its mounts it would fall out the bottom of the engine bay and onto the subframe..
in doing this the exhaust would probably snap and the noise would be unbearable along with not being able to select any gears.
I have never heard of an engine coming off mounts then going back on them so i am very sceptical that this is actually the case.
It is possible however that one of the mounts has come loose or has broken but it wont have fixed itself.
Having said that straight back to the garage with the car for them to investigate as a broken mount depending on which one will put strain on the exhaust and gear linkage as the engine wont be lined up correctly.
I hope this helps0 -
i would have thought the garage would have only fitted the engine onto your old engine mounts unless any that came with the replacement engine were in a better condition
best let them take a look at it first offremember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice0 -
Just spoken to my husband and he says its a front mount that it come off and went back on to not all of them like he said before.
To be honest ive had it with the damn thing, everytime he gets out of it and comes in the house I hear about something he thinks it needs doing.0 -
Not the garages fault. If it had been, it'd have been like that from the moment you picked it up.0

how does he know the engine came off the mounts and then back on again? did he see this happen?...work permit granted!0

turn the car off, put it in gear, release the hand brake
now rock the car back and forth, see how much the engine moves0 -

Not necessarily, if they did not torque the bolts properly it could have worked itself loose. It depends what the cause is when it is looked at.
Worn mounting, not garage fault
Missing or loose bolt, garage fault.0
