Charity Shops

Options
Hello all,

New poster to this board (long time lurker) and not sure if it's the best place for this topic but just wanted to throw this out there....

What is your best buy from a charity shop?

I started rooting around charity shops when I volunteered in one as a wee lost soul many moons ago. Since then most of my favourite things have come from charity shops, and my 2 most recent finds are a gorgeous jumper from River Island for work and another RI jumper which is 100% lambswool. I was in another charity shop yesterday and spotted a Nine West leather bag. I didn't buy it as I thought what a great find it would be for a real hand bag lover. Just got me thinking. Aren't they little treasure troves.
I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down

  • I got a pair of levi jeans for £2 and the most gorgeous olli and nic bag in a purple tweed for £3 also got a ted baker bag, again was £2 . I am forever rummaging in charity shops lol. I went in the other day and bought a pair on new look heels for £3, which were still in the new look store for £22 so I was a bit miffed but chuffed too,

A couple of months ago I bought a beautiful cashmere/wool coat (calf length) in immaculate condition for £5. I have worn it loads and I can honestly say I have never received so many compliments nor felt so snug and comfy in ANY coat I have ever bought. (And I must have spent a fortune on winter coats and jackets over the years).

A few years ago I bought my DH a brand new (tags still on) Puffa jacket in a green moleskin fabric. I paid about £7.50 for it and he uses it every winter.

    I lOVE charity shop bargains!!

I have literally had loads of fabulous bargains from the Oxfam in Norwich and the one in Manchester. Probably the best one ever a ted baker t-shirt for £3. Also they have many items online http://www.oxfam.co.uk/shop and you can get some very reasonably priced books, etc.

I never knew Oxfam did online! Thanks I'm just going to have a look now.
I've had so much stuff over the years from Charity shops, I love them!

There's a charity shop in Alderley Edge that is very expensive though, I can't afford to shop there! They wanted £100 for a handbag! :rotfl:

Tis a new thing. Charity shops (particularly larger charities) aren't daft and know the value of things. Notting Hill Housing Trust have 30 shops in London and TBH some of the childrens clothing ain't much cheaper than brand new.

I was in Glasgow for a week earlier this year and Oxfam had a specific shop devoted to records, cd's and books so much so you'd think you were in a record shop.
