They phoned recently and offered my 2 daughters extra education in the evenings, for a price.
Both of my daughters have above average grades as things stand.
Anyone heard of them?
Any feedback?
Many thanks.

ooooh yes i know them. damned rip off im afraid. the video tutorials use australian spellings and grammar in the 'english vids' that are of no use in an exam.
I had to sit through hours of those videos, and only did so as my parents had paid shocking amounts for the privilage.
Youd be better off asking the school/friends of yours if they know any tutors. far better. i used private tutors for gcse german, as maths, and a2 chemistry. got A, A, B respectively. well worth the money
hope that helps!

Not sure if this is too late for you albionrovers?? I joined the SSC programme recently and have been very impressed with the service and materials they've provided. The DVD and worksheets are all English (not sure where the Oz stuff orion-7 mentions came from) and my child is finding the course very helpful and is growing her confidence. The money side of things was sorted by using their monthly payment option. Personally, I don't think you can put a price on your childs education. Her class sizes are quite large and with only one teacher she doesn't get the attention that she sometimes needs. At least this way I know I'm doing my bit to make sure she's keeping up with the modules she should be covering through the national curriculum. I wouldn't automatically write them off because of the cost involved.0

Glad it's working well for you. What is the cost with these programmes?
For those who are thinking about buying, it's worth considering whether the SSC tutors are qualified (PGCE, postgrad education, etc)? Not sure how much SSC costs. I've seen some computer-based tutoring programmes being sold for rather more than sessions with a well-qualified personal tutor would cost, though...0 -

Forget The Student Support Centre. High pressure salesmen, long-term contracts, great expense.
Instead - talk to your child's teacher for an assessment of their strengths and weaknesses and hire a personal tutor - someone known to the school or trusted friends. It's cheaper this way - it's more effective this way.0 -
forgot to say - ask yourself why the student support centre would want to tie you into a contract for 4 years?
Is this to benefit your child?
Nope.0 -
Anyone got any feedback as to cost/duration of contract/sales techniques/quality of materials. Have looked at the web site and information regarding cost and contract terms seems to be lacking.Am unimpressed with the DVD stuff-there's cheaper, better stuff online. What's the situation if they enrol pupils in KS40

I contacted my local office in Bucks because I wanted to enquire about support in maths for my daughter as she has been struggling to keep up since moving to grammar school. I was connected to an extremely patronising woman from their enquiry team who advised me that a consultant would need to come to my house and do assessments with my daughter. After establishing when my husband would be at home she then proceeded to arrange an appointment time. I started to explain that I would like to discuss it with my husband and daughter first and she said that was fine and gave me a freephone number to contact them and abruptly disconnected the call. I was slightly discomfited by her overbearing manner but I can assure you I was absolutely furious when I received an appointment confirmation letter 3 days later for a meeting I had NOT agreed to! This has put me off having anything further to do with this company.0
