Emachine's freezes

hi have a emachine running xp home and have only returned from holiday to find when I turned on the computer on after about 5 mins the computer freezes and the only way to turn it off is to use the plug ,when you turn it back on you get 5 or 6 beeps from inside the tower and nothing happens,it does not turn on or off and i have to use the plug again.I have tryed the restore but its telling me this cant be done,now when I leave it for about 10 mins it does start up again but freezes again after the 5 mins anyone out there can help ,oh and the hard drive was replaced about 12 months ago

those sound like "post" beeps

if you hit F2 on boot it normally takes you into bios...

thanks went to that web site and after hearing the beeps have removed a 256 ram stick and the computer has started up but will let you know if it freezes again thanks

Save all your personal data to disc and restore your computer to factory settings with your restore discs - I've lost count how many times I've relied on mine to put things right - I have an emachines computer too.
