My faithful CRT monitor has served me faithfully for years and now it is time to upgrade to flat monitors. This is very cheap http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000GYHS6Y/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE and wondering if this is a good monitor considering the price.

The make is quite well known and seems to have a good reputation, but are you sure you want one with a widescreen format?
I bought one when I replaced my CRTs, but I don't watch DVDs or TV much on them and found the extra width something I didn't use and a pain to fit onto the desktop.
Fortunately it had a fault, so I was able to return it and and get a 17" non-widescreen instead. If you get a standard aspect ratio screen with 1280x1024 pixels you will get better vertical resolution than the screen you linked to.0 -
What graphics card do you have? If it's too old it may not be able to output a widescreen resolution.0

If you do want this for games or films then i wouldnt go for it. If you dont mind spending an extra £10 get the 19 LG from Currys. May even find a voucher code on here somehwere.
The one you are looking at has 700:1 contrast ratio whereas the LG has 8000:1
