orchid96, if I was cooking that but with the thin meat, what I would do is brown the meat, and then take it out before I put everything else in the pan, and then just add the meat back in at the end so that it doesn't toughen up..

Didn't buy any food yesterday (my definition of a NSD). I'm proud of myself because I've taken in my lunch on the days I went into the office, and didn't spend any in the caff. Working at home today but may have to go into Leeds to get some school jumpers for DD, who seems to have lost every single one of hers. They're not in lost property, in the dirty washing or the clean washing (the really bad pile). And that was WITH her name in the label.

Last night I made a mince & pasta dish using pork mince and a lot of veggies. DS ate it up like a little champ, even the celery. He is getting much less fussy. Half is left so I am going to add a little chilli and some kidney beans tonight. Not sure whether to do it with corn chips (found some lurking) or make a cornbread topping and bake it.

I will probably do a small shop this weekend - we need fruit, tomatoes, mushrooms, hummous (yes, I could make it but I like it to have tahini and don't have any) and bread. Nothing else, amazingly. I could get them locally but we also need wine (that comes out of a different budget) so it might be just as easy to do an internet order.

Planning to use up some of the roast lamb from the freezer on saturday: lamb sizzled in spices, hummous, felafel (in freezer), tabbouleh and pitta bread. For Sunday, I was planning a casserole but have found one in the freezer so I will defrost that. It has carrots in it, will do potatoes and broccoli as well.

I hope you are all doing well with your targets.

I will have to go shopping tomorrow for the first time since last Saturday. We are desperate for fresh fruit but I want to go to the farm shop rather than Mr S or Aldi as the taste and quality is much better although it does cost quite a bit more. OH started WW last night so I need to ensure I have a good supply of F&V in.

Apart from some milk, plain yogurt and eggs I don't need to buy anything else. I will get these from Mr S as they are cheaper than the farm shop and I like skimmed milk which they don't stock.

Will pop back on to update my signature on Saturday.

    Bye for now

  • I've had a good week cooking-wise, homemade every day but with it being a 6 week month between pay, I have a lot less to spend on food than I normally would, it'll be a challenge!

going shopping at MrS tonight, reason being i have £60 in vouchers that won last year and havent used yet. taking the family bowling tomorrow and got a family meal out sunday lunch. so my theory is what i save using the vouchers can go towards the outings. (i do mum in laws shopping as well so i can use vouchers for hers and get cash back for them:T )

Im going to go through my list this afternoon so im not buying stuff we dont need;) .

did a veggie sheperds pie last nigt with swede/pot mash on top so veggies are about all used up now with no waste this week

Hubby pointed out last night that I shouldn't include the £25 or so we spend a month on cat food in my £100 food budget, as that's a fixed expense. We can't feed the animals less and we've tried everything else and they'll only eat tinned Kitekat.

Does anyone else include pet food?
