Well I am now officially drawing a line under January, all done at $387.84

Spent $20.50 tonight on 4L Milk, 2 loaves sliced bread, bunch nanas, 6 nectarines and a piddly little bunch of grapes.

Still have dozen bread rolls to get from the bakers for lunch tomorrow, but too bad they will come out of February. Other than that I'll not be going near another shop until at least Tuesday or Wednesday next week. :T

Got mounds of food to cook and guests to entertain so won't be back for a few days, have fun everybody enjoy the weekend.

My grocery spend for this week was £29.49 out of £30. A bit too close for my liking, and if you asked me what I spent it on I couldn't tell you, apart from the bread, milk and butter that I buy every week. I have been very tired this week due to ds not sleeping well on Saturday and Sunday, so that probably explains it.

My total so far for the month is £83.64 out of £120, with one week left to go.

Evening - am just watching Dispatches : The true cost of cheap food. A bit of an eye opener - hoping it does not put me off too much!!!!!!

I haven't watched the programme so forgive me if I'm about to say something outrageous but we all have to feed our family in the best way we can. I used to buy all organic or at least free range, supported local businesses and had a veg box delivery but over this last couple of years it just hasn't been possible for me and there's only so many times you can say I'd rather do without than buy the eggs (for example).

Tbh I probably wouldn't have watched the programme anyway because it would just make me feel bad if someone else was suffering so that I could buy cheaper food and at the moment there's nothing I can do about my situation.
  • I made the spicy bean & sweet potato stew last night that someone posted on here, I think it was posted on this thread, it was yummy, think I might have put a bit to much chilli in it, I coundn't taste it but DS siad it was very spicy. the only pinto beans I could find in MrT's were 99p:eek: and the dried ones had to be soaked for 8-12 hours and I didn't have time for the ones that needed soaking. does anyone know where I can get them cheaper (tined) than that. there is loads left over as well, so thats dinner sorted out for tonight as well:T

MrsMc- we are going to be on the potatos again at weekend, yum yum. they are very addictive and the lemon flavor seems to get better when they have been left overnight.

Back on MSE again! to take control of my finances and not let it control me. :T May grocery challenge £41.96/140

    Hi everyone

havent caught up with this thread recently nor have I been keeping proper track of my food spend so slapped wrists for me!

I am more aware of the whoopsie section though and always get very excited when I see lots of yellow stickers although I have not bought any yellow stickered item yet as it hasnt been "cheap enough" :rotfl: !!!

Its my anniversary next week and I am having a home delivery shop from asda.

I am intending on having a bit of a curry feast but don’t know whether to just buy all the bits and pieces from asda curry pot (their ready meal section – not very money saving!) or make my own?

I have some ideas for the curry but would welcome any suggestions for theacompliments. i.e. home made bhajis a selection of dips etc ?

Hi all, just popped on to update signature and try and catch up on some posts. Its going to be tight this month (mmm year!) dinner for 4 last night ended up having to feed 6 so steamed a cabbage put that in the soup plates first put the beef casserole ( that I'd added dough balls to )on top of that so the dish's looked full! Tonight is KFC I know not frugal but it's mil birthday there is nothing she wants or needs KFC is her favourite treat so we are having a family takeaway and I'll make a cake so it comes out of bday budget:rotfl: . 1 more week to go and not alot of budget left, oh well we can only try, good luck everyone.

Went through my cupboards/fridge/freezer with a fine tooth comb yesterday morning and then made a shopping list.

I stuck to it barr 1 whoopsie in Asda (lamb mince which I love to use in shepherds pie) so i'm feeling quite proud of myself :T

Spent £38.10 in Asda and £3.89 in Butchers (streaky bacon and mince). Have enough for meals and packed lunches until weds or thurs of next week and still £70.90 left. My month ends on Sat 31st.

Gonna do loads of batch cooking and freezing today while i'm in the mood :p

Soaked my soup mix last night for slowcooker chicken broth today mmmmmm.
How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?

    Morning all!
I'm desperately trying to hang on to the budget and only spend £150 but this is going to be really tight.
We're away for the weekend and only have Mon-Fri to cater for before the new budget starts again but we need fruit, milk, cereal and a few bits and bobs to see us through the week. Hmmmmm - at least if I do go over it will only be by a little bit (maybe?)
Not too bad I suppose considering forgot it was a mega 5 week month and only budgeted for 4!

Anyway, February is a nice round 4 week month for me and I'm going to be back on the diet (feel quite podgy!) and OH coud do with eating less rubbish too.

So Mrs M it's £160 for February for me please (we need to stock up a bit on freezer and storecupboards after running them down a bit in jan).

I'll declare January when I've done the minishop on Monday- fingers crossed!
