Not doing too badly - we've been eating out the freezer a lot this week and finishing off the Christmas biscuits!! I hadn't realised how much I was spending 'in-between' the big shops - it really does add up, doesn't it!

When I was younger and it was lean week, I remember my mum saying 'there will be some funny meals this week' meaning she was using up what was in the freezer and some things may not quite go together!! So next week for us, there will be some funny meals!

    Hi everyone

I havent been able to keep up with this thread, will definetly try to catch up on everyones posts later today.

Yesterday, I spent £6.20 in the butchers. I bought a steak pie (yes I know I should have made my own, but time wasnt on my side), and some beef sausages. I have updated my sig. im quite proud of myself for staying away from the shops, the last time I went shopping it was the 7th or 8th of January, so, with me visiting the butchers yesterday, and my shopping trip last week, Ive only had 2 days where ive spent anything.:j  :j .

Eek had to go to Mr S today for some fresh bits, decided to make home made pizza, DS made his own and got right into it and is now happily munching on a great looking pizza!! Really really pleased with the results, did use the BM for the dough, HM tom sauce and used up bits for topping....lovely

  • Well by my calculations if its £1 per pound theres 2.2 pounds to a kilo so its £2.20 per kilo. You paid £10 for 4.5 5kilos which is £2.20 per kilo

Sounds like a good deal to me and a better quality one too. Anyone else work it out like me?

Doh sorry that's my dodgy maths I divided the 4.5kg by £10 and not the other way round!! So yes you are right that was a very good deal and I take back my comment about my reasonably priced butcher (although they are still cheaper than Mr T's!!

  • Well done searching_me! Doesn't heating up homemade soup in the comfort of the work kitchen feel soooo good compared to watching everyone else nip across to the chippy in the lashing rain and spend £5+ a day on crap!? HM soup all the way. I'm slowly converting the OH (who now takes his in a flask) after the burning his hand on the industrial microwave incident lol.

Everyone, I've been stockpiling again, I'm so ashamed. Nipped back into wilkinsons as I had forgotten to get index cards for my revision the last day and noticed crest toothpastes 100g for 50p and huge morning fresh washing up liquid 100% extra free for 78p. Plus I couldn't resist a few more 35p campbells condensed soups for my pie filling stockpile. I think I might have to jump onto the annual budget bandwagon, as the offers around at the minute are too good not to take advantage of I reckon! Can you change me to an annual £1500 please MrsMc? I'm still aiming for £1200 but £1500 is more realisitic and allows for £100 per month plus a £300 cushion if we fall off target.

    xx

Ok.. well another £60 has disappeared.. nappies, formula, wipes..oh and i had a desperate urge for greasy food as feeling full of cold and so treated us to bacon and a fresh but shop bought loaf! O/H working late tonight, so i think i'll just have some noodles for tea which means an extra meal in stock.. there is a balance somewhere!!?!

you're wise to take advantage of offers as and when you see them, if its things you'll use up and you have the cash. If you totted up how much you've saved by bagging the good offers over a period of months I think you'd be surprised at just how much it adds up ;).
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
