Wireless problem grrrr

Guys,

I have been connecting my other laptop wireless before and decided to scan it with superantimalware, this found some malware which were removed. Then, I decided to remove AVG and installed Avast because of the recommendations. After all these, I cant connect to my wireless again.

The issue is that I can see the laptop connection signal ok on the task bar and I did windows diagnostic and came out with there is no connection problem .

Is it the avast that is blocking it or what?techies pls help

It sounds like the firewall may be blocking the connection, try stopping the program in the first instance then trying to connect. If this works then you have the answer...don't forget to re activiate the program after, might be worth activating the windows firewall whilst you do this to give some protection
  • Thanks Chr,I have just terminated webshield and voila connected...but I cant possibly leave it like that.Is there anyway to work this out?

hi, there should be an add program or allow access setting in there, you need to add the wireless program to this, unfortunately I dont use avast so can only go on what other programs do, hope this helps
  • Is there anyone around who use Avast? If there is, how do you use webshield without tampering with your internet connection?

Have you tried disabling the windows firewall (not required if running avast, IMHO) and switching on Avast while connected wirelessly.
It should come up with something similar to " Belkin router is trying to access the network...allow/disallow" If no such message appears try checking the log afterwards and adding the router as a "trusted site".
Also try googling your wireless router manufacture with avast in the same line.
eg "belkin avast problem" or " netgear avast problem"
    Good luck

You HAVE checked google before asking, haven't you?;)

you need to edit the exceptions list on windows firewall to let ashWebSv.exe or aswWebSv.exe access the internet.
Q: I have installed avast! and I can no longer browse the Web. How can I solve this?

A: Check your firewall configuration. For the correct operation the Web Shield process (ashWebSv.exe or aswWebSv.exe) needs a permission to access the Internet (TCP port 80) and a permission to act as a server and accept incoming connections from localhost (the local machine) on TCP port 12080.
