Home Emergency Cover
Options
Hi - My first 2 years emergency cover for my townhouse provided by the builder has just finished and am now looking for a cover which will cover emergencies such as problems with boiler, central heating, fuse box, broken windows, blocked drains, etc.
I have recieved a letter from NHBC which provides this cover (Central heating problems covered only from Sept - Apr, and max of £500 per claim, unlimited number of claims) for £5.99 for the first 12 months.
Can anyone please suggest if this is worth taking it, or should i look elsewhere for cheaper cover?

If it's £5.99 per month then that sounds expensive.
Is there an option to add it onto your house insurance? This might be a cheaper option.
Do you really need this?
We had a leak (on a new house). The job to fix it was quite large (floorboards needed taking up) and that's not covered on an "emergency policy" so the plumbers advice was to - switch the water off (great!).
If you can do basic DIY then I would suggest not having this cover as some policies really do only cover "emergency fixes" (and I don't need a plumber to swicth the water off).
Obviously you need to check the policy to see what's covered (and not the adverts).
If you are not a practical person at all and still want it then I suggest asking your house insurance company first.
They are likely to be cheaper than going elsewhere.
If they don't do it, then it's always worth shopping around.0 -
