Engagement ring for the man??? Or equivalent

Hello everyone,
OH and I have been together for 4 years. We've been talking about getting married for a while now but with work on the house then Xmas we just haven't got round to it

However he proposed over Xmas with an empty box and an I.O.U and he has a Romantic break booked for us at the end of January so we can "do it properly"

Neither of us has done the engagement thing before and he jokingly said "so do I get a ring too?" I didn't think men did until I read another thread on here where the OP mentioned engagement RINGS plural

Is this a new modern tradition or is it a personal choice?

What does a male engagement ring look like?

Help and advice please xx

I had no idea they did this? I've never known a man to have an engagement ring before.

  • You could get him a promise ring. i think it's popular in the states though I've never seen a man wearing one. A bit of info here: http://engagementrings.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Promise_Rings_for_Men

A promise ring signifies the commitment and promise that a couple has made to each other. The promise ring is often worn pre-engagement during the stage when a couple are fully committed to each other, but yet to seal this with the announcement of an engagement or an actual marriage proposal. A man’s promise ring has an additional use, as sometimes it is worn as an alternative to an engagement ring.

  • My partner wears an engagement ring. It hasn't got jewels in it, it's just a nice silver, patterned one. He loves jewellery, though. I proposed to him, intending it to be a wedding ring and he wore it straight away!

I don't if he'll wear it on his right hand when we get married, or replace it with the wedding ring.

    Thanks for the replies.

Before seeing someone elses thread where engagement rings(plural) were mentioned my original question was going to be.........

Did any of the ladies buy their OH a gift when they got engaged and what would be appropriate?

This is the first time my OH has got engaged/married and really wants to do everything right.

It will be my second marriage but the first time round I was 20,skint and Up the Duff  so everything was done very quickly and I never even got an engagement ring :o

So this time round its nice to be doing things properly. He's such a good man i'd feel bad not giving him something in return

So if we don't go for a promise ring or whatever.....what else would make a nice engagement gift for him?

Congratulations- come and join us on the brides to be thread when you set the date. It didn't occur to me to get H2B a ring when we got engaged..in fact it's been hard getting him to agree to a wedding ring (he isn't a jewellery type of bloke :D)

I love the idea of the cufflinks for the wedding day.

Small enough to have as a keepsake afterwards aswell(OH is not a suit n tie type of guy)

  • My OH has an engagement ring, he wanted one, so got him one. Its a titanium ring with a tiny diamond in. He is planning on using it as his wedding ring too.
