Power Steering on Mini One

Ok I'm ending the year with a tricky one.
Power steering isn't working on our mini does anyone know if I may be able to fix it myself. If not could anyone advise as to how much it'll cost me to get fixed?

Hope you techies have all had a nice Christmas.

Hand book says if the power steering fails the car becomes harder to steer.

Always worth reading the handbook. Heaven knows where or if you can check the level.

If the steering is very heavy, first thing I would check is the power-steering fluid. Should be easy to locate the container - should be near the front of the engine with a lid marked power steering fluid only.

It's like checking the oil level, level should be between the two markers.

**BE CAREFUL - POWER-STEERING FLUID WILL DO NASTY THINGS TO YOUR HANDS IF YOU SPILL IT**

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

Thanks, but not sure about that! I should have said "NEW small hatchback without power steering" and probably added "with better than average handling and performance." ;)
