Budg Loan/crisis loan/Com care grant

Hi

I am on Income Support and have Bi Polar

My cooker blew up on Friday,19th Dec, I had it checked and was told it was uneconomical to repair, repair would cost £105 and new cooker £135 Argos Cat

I called DWP Crisis Loand dept and was told I wasnt entitled to a Crisis Loan but maybe a Budgeting Loan, Bud Loan told me Crisis Loan or Com Care Grant:confused: and they said they would send me an application form but this could take 3 weeks to get to me as it was Xmas etc???

I have had no cooking facilities since Thurs 18th Dec..I had bought all my food for Xmas period most of it fresh to be cooked on cooker, I have no microwave. Ive lived on toast and any food I can buy that doesnt require heating up, this is very expensive.

Im worried that they will refuse me any help to get my cooker repaired. is there anywhere else that helps you if DWP refuses

I dont have any family near me to help me and there in no financial position to do so, I worked and paid my taxes up till July this year when my Bi Polar made it impossible for me to work. I intend to return to work soon when Im better but am in need of help now, when I visited the local DWP office on the 19th they were handing out giro cheques to local drug persons and the security guard said they had all "lost" there giros and someone else had cashedthem and they couldnt be left without money over the DWP Christmas shutdown  am I living in an upside down crazy world?

Try freecycle while you're waiting, someone may be getting rid of a cooker. Just a suggestion
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

I dont know the answer but for now, you could get a mini oven from argos for just £19.59

at least it would help right now

You can get the form online immediately. Print it, fill it in and send it off. Here's the link:

  • Just a point and I know it wont help much but the £135 cooker in argos has been out of stock since the beginning of november,we had one on order and had to cancel it just before xmas and buy one elsewhere
Maybe the OP could get a m/wave cheap in the sales while the grant/loan is sorted out?
