Debenhams credit card

in Credit cards
I am hoping I have not walked into one here and also hope that this is an easy answer.
I brought a suit at Debenhams today and whilst at the till was asked if I wanted to take out their store Credit Card which would save me the normal 10% on purchases plus an additional 10% promotion. Normally I dont touch these things with a barge pole but tempted by the £20+ this would save I figured I could take it out and pay it off at the first opportunity after activation and never use it again.
The normal rate is obviously high and as I have only ever had 1 bank credit card before which gets paid off in full each month I know little in truth about them.
Have I got a good deal here or walked into the old saying 'if it sounds too good to be true than it probably is'?

yes! you fell for it! but its not a bad thing. you saved a further £20 and as long as you pay it off straight as you get your bill, its ok!BUT, never get tempted to use it willy nilly. if its used right for example in their sales etc and plan to pay it off immediately then there is nothing wrong with store credit cards. plus if used wisely it will help positively in building your credit file!0

No its not a bad thing, i have a debenhams card which i use only for the sales or special events as you get discount vouchers sent to you and various other little perks, like just now an extra 10% off all sale items and sometimes free choccies too;) but as i said i only use it for the debenhams sale then pay it off.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

As the others have said, as long as you are sensible and pay off any outstanding balance straight away then you're actually onto a good thing!
Cardholders get loads of perks, extra % off sales (normally 10%), advance nofication of sale/% off days, money off coupons throughout the year, free gifts during sale/% days, 10% off all year round in restaurant (20% when you're a gold cardholder) and if you buy something in the sales which is less than half price and pay on your Debenhams card then if you then return it for a refund you get the refund onto your card, whereas if you pay cash/CC/debit card then you would only get a gift card for the value!
Hope that helps

I have done exactly this. Taken out the store card to get 20% off my suit purchase, then paid in full and never used the card again.
Why not ? It will save you money
But as others have said, do not build up a balance that you cannot settle in full otherwise you will end up paying an extortionate interest rate.0 -
Thanks guys.
No problem with paying it off immediately so I will be onto that as soon as the card becomes properly activated.0
