How do I get a refund from M&S and Laura Ashley?

I purchased a coat in the M&S 20% off day on 4th December online and some cushions from Laura Ashley on 27th November and am banging my head against a brick wall with both

First M&S, I haven't received the coat, I also ordered some underwear on the same order, this arrived promptly, when I have chased up my coat they firstly told me that it was sent in a separate parcel and delivery should be any day, this was mid december, I have repeatedly contacted them to be constantly told that it should be with me within the next day or so, I am so fed up now that I have asked for a refund but they tell me that they can't refund me until I return the item (which I have never received) what do I do?

Moving onto Laura Ashley, I returned the cushions as when they arrived they weren't like they were online, this was on 9th December, I have still not received my refund, I phoned them the week before xmas to be told they had a delay of 2 weeks and to ring the following week, I phoned again on 23rd December again to be told they had a huge backlog of returns to get through and couldn't tell me when mine would be processed, they said to send a letter with a copy of the proof of return and would process it straight away, still no refund

what should I do next?

    If you sent the letter on 23rd December they probably haven't received it yet so you may want to wait a few more days before getting onto them again. As for M&S, just ring them and explain what you have said on here and that you want a refund for goods not received.
