House insurance that includes watercraft

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a home contents insurance that includes cover for canoes/kayaks?

I have looked through what seems like 100s of insurance company's and reading through the policy documents and it looks to me as though not one of them is prepared to cover "watercraft" and when questioning them this includes canoes, kayaks, wind surfers, and surfboards.

I can get insurance from a specialist company but this is going to cost me a arm and a leg to cover the amount of equipment i have.

General contents will usually exclude two things:

1. Things the insurer will not cover at all (like cars - obviously!!)
2. Things the insurer wants to know about before they will insure you.

Watercraft exclusions are designed to cover both of the above; the insurer does not want to cover proper boats on their home policy, but they may be willing to cover canoes if you specify them on the policy and pay an additional premium.

Before shopping around for a new policy, try giving your own insurers a call and seeing if they can add them in for you.

If you continue to have trouble, look up the details of your local canoe/watersports club and ask them whether they know of anyone who can help; some of their members MUST have had the same problem you do!!
