I am planning to move next year but several things need doing to the house and I cannot afford to do them all.
The three main areas that need doing are...
1) Bathroom: The bath is looking used and abused. Around the bath is wallpapered (no tiles) and has started to come away from the walls. The plaster board behind has got wet and mould has started to appear.
2) Kitchen: The kitchen units are looking dated (paint fading) and the cutlery draw has a makeshift handle because the old one snapped off!!
3) Windows: The windows are wood and single glazed. Slight drafts are coming from the front and back doors. The general quality of the windows are good, just need a lick of paint.
So my question is.. which of these do you think would add the most value for least amount of money?
1) New bathroom suite. I considered just tiling but a new suite will be needed within the next year or two anyway.
2) New kitchen. Alternatively, could I get new fronts for the existing units?
3) Get the house double glazed and new front/back doors.
4) Keep current windows/doors and give them a new lick of paint.
5) I was also thinking I could get both a new kitchen and bathroom (for what it would cost for double glazing?
)
All ideas, suggestions or constructive criticisms welcome.

Personally I would probably; update the doors in the kitchen by either replacing them or painting them (if they are in good enough condition) possibly replace the worksurface for something modern looking. I'd also probably paint the windows/doors and install draft strips to keep out the cold. Then I'd get rid of the nasty mouldy bathroom as honestly, double glazing is nice but it isnt the be all and end all of houses, and a grimey dodgy looking kitchen/bathroom will seriously affect your marketability.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

At least if you are going to improve you should get more bargains at this time of year.
Good luck :beer:Your greatness is measured by your kindness; your education and intellect by your modesty; your ignorance is betrayed by your suspicions and prejudices, and your real caliber is measured by the consideration and tolerance you have for others.

Public areas are the best places to upgrade.
First impressions count
We did our kitchen first, then upgraded the bathroom as I had no bath in the house but have 4 showersAn average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

Bathroom.
Most people end up redoing a kitchen so just tarting it up should be enough. If the windows are in good repair theres no need for them to be d/glazed (and there are those that hate it) but everyone hates the thought of having to do a bathroom. And nothing puts a person off more then seeing a stained bath and mouldy tiles - makes them wonder how clean the rest of the house is0 -
b & Q are doing some of there doors for kitchens at a loss leader cant remeber what there name was but they were modern maple ones all stores are stocking them and they start at £5 for a 500m door £9 for a 600mm door....ikea are about the best price for worktops only they dont come in standard legths.there good if you only neeed short runs on worktops i.e less than 2600mm
also look at https://www.plumbworld.co.uk they do some excellent deals on bathrooms and via greasypalm you can also get cashback aswell
stick to modern tiles in your bathroom if you go for a white suite. the major tile companys r still on sale at the minute and if you buy from tile city over buy as if you buy more than 4sq mtrs they give it you at trade price then take the excess back and they will refund you
all the best and have a go yourself you have got 12 month before you are looking at movingneed to have a lightbulb moment0 -

Do these people have a website (I've done a google search without any luck) and if not where are they, as I'm looking to retile a room or two myself.:A:A:A:A:A:A0 -
Leave the kitchen well alone Everyone who looks at a house will want to change the kitchen unless it is a very very very good one, Nobody likes a dirty bathroom this is the one room that needs to sparkle. If you got enough put a shower in.
If your house doesnt have double glazing then dont bother installing any. you wont even see the money spent on this. If you can go get cheap white doors for your kitchen and give it a coat of paint re gloss your windows and skirtings and use a few colure tiles for a feature splash back above the sink or cooker thats all. Remeber all you want it to do is make it look nice for when people come to visit.Money's too tight to mention!!!0 -
Definately bathroom first (You can get some really cheap suites and the tiling is no big deal) then would probably go for painting the woodwork (Double glazing can be expensive - although a lot cheaper if your windows are standard sizes and uncomplicated) followed by the kitchen. You are better off with a small collection of new cupboards rather than a lot of old ones - go minimalist on what you have in the kitchenI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

We retiled our bathroom last year, we went to one of these big tile shops. Took our measurements, asked how much it would be and then asked him what his best price would be on that, and he gave us a decent discount! I felt really cheeky and embarrassed doing it because I'm a salesman's dream usually - if they quote £80 I'll say, let's make it a round £100 (and I wonder why I have debts........!).
I'm finally learning - If you don't ask, you don't get. Definitely worth a go!0
