John Lewis Freezers - What Make?

Hi all,

Looking for an small undercounter freezer to replace our current annoying Hotpoint which frosts up within weeks of defrosting.

Unsurprisingly, fancy a frost-free freezer this time and saw that John Lewis do a freezer which goes by the snappy name of the JLUCFZW6002 - seems to fit the bill, not a bad price (£260) and has a 3 year guarantee.

Anyone knows who makes them?

Or does anyone have any other recommendations we should look at?

Thanks!

  • I am sure they are German made and would hazard a guess that it's Bosch. Their stuff is very similar.

I am a JL convert because of this and the fact that you get the 3 year guarantee. There is no mucking about, you phone them and they take the old one and give you a new one. Everything that needs replacing in my home is being replaced with JL own make.
  • Hi, JL products are made by AEG.
  • Most JL products are actually re-badged Zanussi (according to the engineer who came to repair the interior light on my 4-day-old JL dishwasher). May not be the same for their freezers, but more info on this here on the great UKWhitegoods forum.

    Hi,

I work for John Lewis and we get asked this question all the time about who makes the products, and when I asked myself I was told it was AEG, and that is what we tell the customers, unless I have been told wrong info:o

I like JL products and will shop there if I can. I like the customer service.

However, beware the online price might not be the same as the store price. I thought they would be the same.

I went online to check the price of an item, which had been reduced to match a competitor, bought it in store as it was too late to order to have it delivered for christmas, it had also been reduced, but not as low as the online price, when I questioned this, I was told that online prices can be different to store prices, so just be careful.

I sent an email to JL and on this occasion, I was refunded the difference as a goodwill gesture, but apparently it is there in the small print so to speak and it was up to me to check.
  • Yes the website do a lot of online prices only, by looking at the product code of the item, if it begins with 00, it's an internet only price and not available in the store at that price.

The JL appliances are AEG. All with a 3year g'tee.

The online prices *can* be different and don't fall within the 'never knowingly undersold' offer, however a good search round and you might be able to price match with another retailer locally but on the most part this has already been done and they will offer the same price for the item already.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

AEG and Zanussi are both part of Electrolux so either could be true. If you take a look at washing machines you will find Zanussi, John Lewis, AEG and Tricity Bendix all to the same spec with only minor cosmetic differences.
