£1024 in 11 Weeks from Nothing

Hi,
Making £1024 in 11 weeks from nothing was the first challenge I ever took part in and was started by ehallett back in 2006 http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=271716. It was where the Olympic Challenge was born and is the only challenge that has ever really motivated me
Basically you have to double what you make each week starting from £1. I'm going to start tomorrow
If anyone wants to join me then that's great but I know there are alot of challenges going on at the mo. I don't want to get too technical about what counts as money for nothing so I'm going to follow the original rules:
1. Any cash that you make must be created from nothing - you cannot use your own money to create a profit and then use that profit to start with.
2. If you wish to sell items on Ebay then please use items that you personally didn't buy. These can be a present, prize, freebie etc - as long as the item didn't cost you a penny, it's ok.
3. If you wish to use cashback from a site like Quidco, then this must have been generated through a free method and not from internet shopping. If this money was raised through free offers and clickthroughs then this is fine.
Targets are :
£1 - 04/01/09
£2 - 11/01/09
£4 - 18/01/09
£8 - 25/01/09
£16 - 01/02/09
£32 - 08/02/09
£64 - 15/02/09
£128 - 22/02/09
£256 - 01/03/09
£512 - 08/03/09
£1024 - 15/03/09
I'm going to add it to my sig and get my thinking cap on :T:money:

Hi
I thought you had resurrected the old thread when I saw this.
I have to say that I am rubbish when it comes to completing challenges. I'm great at thinking them up but just rubbish at actually doing them!! However, I really want to prove that this can be done so I am in too!!
I have got 2 ways to begin with this. Firstly, my auntie and uncle got me a Freeview box for Christmas, however I've already got 2 in my house so don't need another one. They helpfully left the receipt with the present so I'm going to take it to Asda and see if they will refund it for me. That will be £17 that I can instantly put towards this challenge.
Plan B is selling a mascara that I won in a competition. It's Maybelline so should be able to sell it for a pound or more.
I'll get myself down to Asda tomorrow morning!!
Good luck Jet xx0 -
Hi - good to 'see' you back
I've got a couple of things that I can ebay that I havent bought and am going to get back in to matched betting (once I've got enough 'free' money to place bets) as this really boosted my total last time. I'm also going to start advertising translation (French/German).
I'm going to keep the money in a seperate account this time so that I can have a lump sum at the end of the challenge.JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0 -
Golly this one sounds interesting. Count me in.
The first few weeks will be quite easy, but then it is going to get really hard.
Hi Elhallet, I have been doing you Payment a Day Challenge for a while now. I managed to clear all my credit cards during 2008 and your challenge certainly helped motivate me towards that. Thank you.

Can I join it too? I tried in vain last time when ehallet started, but got stuck when the amounts got larger! I must try harder this time then I can pay it off my cc. Will list one of my christmas vouchers on ebay tomorrow to get me started! :beer:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. This sounds like a brilliant challenge but I think I've just got too much going on at the moment to give it my all. Definitely something I'll look out for in the future though. Or perhaps I could get my OH to give it a try...
Good luck to you all!0 -
Sounds a great challenge, ive never tried such a trick. Can I join in!!!

Welcome to Debt free Dreamer, rachelja and peteuk
This challenge has already got my brain ticking again .... usually takes quite a lot for that to happen:rolleyes: Anyway, I've thought of a few more things I can list on ebay tomorrow that I didn't pay for. Once I've sold them and deducted fees from the profits (providing they sell
) I will be able to use the money I've made to buy some cheap bargains in the sales to sell on ebay at a profit.
I'm not going to be doing clicks cos they drive me mad - but am going to do some Quidco because for some reason it doesnt make me feel as insaneJUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0 -
Hmmm, this sounds tricky... I know i may be being a bit thick (but then it is quite late at night) but where does the original £1 come from that you double? Or do you just start with a £1 you put in? See; I told you it was a stupid question!0

Hi
You have to try and create the first pound out of nothing. This could be by finding it in the street, selling something that didn't cost you anything (a present, prize, freebie etc) or something else.
