Bulldog & 18866

Hi

Yesterday I switch my line rental from BT to Bulldog, so that I could take advantage of their £ 9.75 Broadband deal. I now find that I can't use the 18866 service any more. I checked the terms & conditions etc before signing up and there was no mention that these types of cheap call providers would be blocked.

Anybody know if this is legal, as I know BT can't prevent you from using companies like 18866.

If it's legal to block does anybody know if there's a way round the block, or other cheap call providers that will work with Bulldog.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

    Their T&C are here http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/residential/legal/general_terms.asp

If you go to section 16 you will see they can bar these numbers if they so desire.

Have they barred access to the 18866,Freephone 0808 number used by Cable Customers?

    16. SPECIAL VOICE TERMS

16.1 If you order voice Services from Bulldog then:
    • some of the Services that you currently receive will be terminated when your voice Services are activated by Bulldog. Such Services include, without limitation: BT Call Sign Number, Carrier Pre Selection (CPS), Indirect Access, Home Highway and ISDN 2(e); Surftime and FRIACO ( Flat Rate Internet Access Call Origination) dial-up internet access.
You no longer rent your line from BT anymore. You now rent it from Bulldog. If there are any problems with the line it will be BT's new arm's length Openreach division that will service you.

I hope the BB makes it worthwhile because it looks like your PSTN costs will increase considerably.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I'm surprised you weren't aware, as 1) it is on their T&C and 2) everyone is always warning people the implications of moving line rental away from BT.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Luckily my phone usage is not high, even when using BT I was only paying on average £ 6.00 per month (excluding dialup connection fees, which were a further £6.00-£9.00), and now that 18866 are charging 4p per connection there is not that much difference in the monthly cost, however I now have Broadband and all the advantages that brings including being able to use it 24/7, were as with dialup I restricted myself in the main to evenings/weekends.

So I'm not to concerned, I was just enquiring out of interest if they could bar these services.
