I have just bought a Nutool (NTPG2-P) 2 stroke generator for £15 from Focus but I cant work out the loading in watts say
AC power 230-240V - 50Hz
Rated power 0.65KVA
Peak Power 0.78KVA
Phase Single
Power Factor cos(o with a line through) = 1
DC output 12V, 8.3amps.
Will I be able to run several ligths in my house if there is a power cut?

Its about 650 watts so yes you can run lights with it0

1 kVA is approximately 1 watt
650 kVA is approximately 650 watts.
As far as cheap generators go you can not connect them directly to your houses electricity supply (special equipment is required to prevent your generator back feeding your neighbours and the incoming supply network.
You would be advised to run an extension from the generator for lamps and such items.
Please note cheap generators can fluctuate voltage and frequency - this can cause damage to electronic itemsbaldly going on...0 -
I guess the long extension lead will be required to get away from the noise too...0

And if its 2-stroke it'll sound like someone's riding a chicken chaser through your house.
I'd go for rechargeable fluorescent lanterns for emergency lighting, great for barbecues on warm summer evenings too.0 -
We have alot of power cuts here and I just thought for £15 it could be worth getting.
I was thinking of running extension lead for a couple of lights if required.
Do you think it could run a medium sized freezer safely as well?
Thanx for the replies.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -

It is 2 stroke. But for £15 its cheaper than flourescent lights.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -
It could run a TV but not a freezer.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Should get yourself a good old car battery, and some 12v headlamps, hey presto.
Scrap yards will give you the batteries, charge them and store them in the shed etc. Top up every year or so.
650w is good, but i would go with the diesel 2kw+ generators for long term use...0
