BTL- Buildings insurance when tenant is in receipt of housing benefit?

Hi,

I have a nice young family who would like to rent our property. However, they will be paying part of the rent with their housing benefit.

I have tried a few companies but with no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Phone a few brokers! Wish I could give suggestions, hope someone else can!

But I hope you have told any insurers with whom you currently have business what you think of them for this mindless exclusion! Goodness only knows it's hard enough to find a landlord who'll take you if you're claiming HB (so well done to you for that!) without facing this kind of discrimination as well!

(Sorry, ranting ... have just read a thread started by sneeky mum on Social Exclusion in Discussion Time!)

  • Companies don't like taking tennants that are referred directly to you by the DSS (i.e. DSS phones you up to ask if you'll take them), most of them are ok with DSS assisted payments. Contact a broker and tell them that your tennants aren't referred by the DSS but they get assisted payments, most should be ok

We have used Zurich (formerly the Eagle Star bit) for years. Tenants aren't directly referred by DSS tho' - come via agent.
