Why aren't they compatible and can they be compatible without spending a fortune?

I have just been searching on Google and it looks like people have had lots of problems trying to do this, so it looks like it probably isn't compatible...0

What makes you think they aren't compatible? I have Access 97 installed on XP and don't recall having any problems.

Also, make sure your friend is an "Administrator" user on her computer and not a "limited" user, as this causes problems for programs not designed for XP. and some programs that are actually designed for XP for that matter...0 -
Nice one Tigermatt, I'm going over there on Friday to give her a tutorial on another bit of software so I will check then.I haven't got one!0

We have Access 97 working fine on an XP pro machine at work. I'm sure I used to have Access 95 on an XP home machine.0

It could be that Stompa is using XP Pro but your friend's new computer only has XP Home.
I'm using XP Home.
I think we're probably going to need more info than just "it doesn't work". What happens exactly, is there an error message?

If you mean that you want Access 97 and Access 2000\XP on the same machine take a look at this, we had to do this a few times at work:
http://eis.bris.ac.uk/~ccmjs/access97_and_2000.htm
(easiest option is to unisntall both, install 97, install access xp on its (not office xp) *to a different directory*
If you mean Access 97 database will not work in Windows XP, you need to convert the database when you need to go to:
Tools>Database Utilities>Convert Database0 -
Or it could be you have a oem (Not retail Box) version af access 97, & are trying to install on a PC which hasn't had a pre-install done. i.e retail box of XP installed by the user not PC Manufacturer0

Ok thanks all, I'll see what's going on on Friday a bit better. My friend is pretty useless with anything technical (and admits it herself)
Hopefully you'll all be around then to give more advice.
Many thanks for nowI haven't got one!0
