whats the point in paying £5k for a telly with only 2 HDMI ports???

If you spend that sort of money then you usually only run ONE HDMI cable to your wall mounted screen.

You buy a decent amplifier like the Pioneer LX90 to do the source switching for you.

LOL. So what's the big FULL HD 1080 logo for on it?

Because they are as clueless as you?

Resolution (horizontal x vertical)1,365 (Hor) x 768 (Ver) So NOT Full HD.

Not to mention that this is only a 7th Generation Panel. The LX6090 is a 9th Generation.

progressive is better than interlaced....1080p over 1080i

Actually it isnt always. Not if you refer to screen input capabilities or transmission format.

If you have a 1080P 25 Hz source that is sent as a 1080i 50Hz signal then all Plasmas and LCDs convert it back to a 1080p 25Hz progressive picture to display it anyway.

The picture contains exactly the same amount of information. There is no discernable difference between that and a native 1080p signal.

However 1080i filming / source material is BAD as you get jaggies / feathering with movement - even if you convert it to a progressive scan picture. However only really crappy low end HD cameras would film / record in 1080i.

youre mostly right on what you say ofcourse....

    but my friend...

all pal hdtv's (surely those after Q2 2008) support 1080i at 50hz. its the native hd format for dvb-t broadcasting here in the uk, aus, euro and china. 1080i at 60hz is native UStates hd..

(i could be incorrect tho im pretty sure)

pal dvds at 60hz cause visible tearing of the pic. looks ridiculous

OP - i aint got round to it yet, however the kuro is one of the leading tele's at the moment. that i do know ;)

Is that bolded bit entirely true? All Sky HD broadcasts are in 1080i. Does that mean a lot of material is not recorded in 1080i and later changed by Sky/the channel in question for broadcast?

The source material for Sky would in general be filmed in 1080p, so yes they send it as 1080i, then converting it back to 1080p is virtually a lossless process. Certainly no difference discernable with the human eye.

Just because they 'support' 1080i doesnt mean they can actually display it. Many screens just scale it to fit.
