Connecting Freesat and Sky box to one dish

I have a sky installation which belonged to previous owner of house. Worked fine with my Freesat Integrated TV and the old Sky box I acquired to watch Setanta Sports (although I have been switching the cable in between depending on what I am watching). I have never been a Sky Subscriber as such or had an installation from them.
The cable snapped in high winds last week - done a repair but have lost some channels so possibly a problem elsewhere.
I am thinking it might be worth getting a new Sky installation to keep cost of new installation down. Does anyone know if I am likely to encounter any problems in getting a new subscription as the house already has a sky dish fitted.
I also need to know if they will fit a dish that allows for more than one cable coming from it - to feed both the freesat in the TV and the new Sky Box.
Any difference in the type of equipment offered if I buy a non subscription installation such as the £75 offer at Currys or Dixons compared to the equipment offered if going for a sub?
I don't want to have to take multiroom if I can avoid the extra cost.

Thanks for any help offered.

  • I have not looked into Freesat boxes yet, but you can get a sky dish and fit it with a Quad LNB. Run 4 cables from this to your boxes and you should have more than you need.

A Sky box uses 1 cable.
    A Sky+ box uses 2 cables.
Freesat Box uses at least one cable.

Basic I know, but hope that starts you off in the right direction.
  • Thanks HoofeHearted. I know it's possible to fit the dish with Quad connector but I don't know if it is something Sky fit as standard with their installation. I had heard that I would get a Quad LNB if I got a Sky+ box but I'm not sure what they give if I take the standard box or one of their £75 one of cost offerings from Currys/Dixons.
I had called a TV/Satellite installer to ask about repair of existing dish and installation of Quad LNB and he had suggested Sky+ would be cheaper than him doing it.

You will only get a single output LNB with a standard Sky Receiver.

It cost me £20 for a quad LNB off Ebay (Thompson LNB) and twin cable plus £40 fitting with a local fitter
