Problem with xbox 360

My husband has installed Final fantasy xi on his xbox 360 but when he goes to play it the xbox won't read the disc. He has formatted the hard drive twice and it reads the disc to install it but then it won't read the disc to play. can anyone help please.

I dont have an xbox so im just looking at obvious things here. On my PS3 you ned to install to the hard drive but STILL need to put the disc in to play it?
Whats the EXACT problem you have? What happens when you try the above?

He has installed to hard drive, then put disc in to play, xbox tries to read disc but comes up with message "disc unreadable"

Is the disc of sound quality?
Sounds odd that it installs then fails!

Its brand new from HMV, so not dodgey!

Have you got enough space on your 360 hardrive
A hard drive is required to play FFXI. The game installs itself onto your hard drive and takes up about 5GB of space. Part of the installation process is that the game will automatically download updates and patches which takes quite a while. You also have to input registration details and credit card info at this point. The installation process takes a good 2+ hours to complete.
