whats the best way to permanently back up photos

im a bit out of touch with all the latest techy stuff:o

anyway..i have lots of photos stored on my laptop , id like copies stored somehow incase the laptop goes wrong

whats the best method , and how many average pics fit on one cd/card etc

    DVD , up to 4.25 Gb , do multiple copies over a period of time in case of damage or degradation of media. Buy top quality branded names

    external hard disk , in tandem with above , so if one option fails you should have the other

    memory sticks are more likely to fail completely

    I have just had to re-format my PC hard drive. My 4000+ photos were backed up onto two separate external hard drives. No problem.

    Don't wait - do it now !

    You could consider an online backup service, such as Carbonite. Unlimited space and constant backup utility.

    It's all very well having files backed up, but if your house gets damaged, then no end of backups will not keep your data safe!

    I'll give this a go, hate to loose all my kids photos. :beer:

  • 2 backups onto good quality DVD, keep 1 copy, give the other to someone else to look after, add Belnahua's suggestion of an online backup and you're golden!

    and finally, print out the best photos, and keep them too.. . why is it that people NEVER print out photos these days? :rolleyes:

    You could also use Microsoft's Skydrive, max 50mb file size, total capacity 5gb and its free.
