The great M&S sale

Am a bit flabbergasted to see that M&S is starting their store sale at 6am this morning (yes I know the online sale is already up and running but there is no subsitute for the crush of the rush).

Am trying to adjust from jetlag (NZ) and have been up all night, no chance of sleep now so am seriously considering going to my local branch a bit later. In fact I have plenty of time to drive to Lakeside, what stops me is the fact I have never picked up a serious bargain at that particular branch and why waste petrol?

Are there any other mad people paying a visit to the sacred temple of M&S first thing this morning? May the force be with you fellow bargain hunters  .

  • I've ordered a few things online, but there's a pair of shoes I've had my eye on for a while that is out of stock online.
I'm wide awake, so considering going down there but its dark and cold outside and I dunno if I really can be bothered!!
I've got a £40 giftcard though so maybe I should go see what there is? Never been one for the sales though really.
  • Just got back....and I got my shoes (chuffed!!!)

It was surprisingly busy, but not hectically so, didn't have to queue at tills...quite nice atmosphere really, was expecting a lot worse!

I was only 30 mins but I'd already earmarked (in my head) what I liked online so knew where I was heading...

No big surprise bargains because I'd seen it all online but did pick up a very nice basque to surprise hubby with, for £9 :rotfl:(can't find it online)
  • Its the thought of defrosting the car thats putting me off :(

I do know what you mean.... I went on my bike , was cold but probably quicker than defrosting and parking (plus its only about a mile away) would be different if it was quite far, lol!!

Maybe I will kick my wife out of bed and give her a tenner to surprise me with a basque :D

The shoes I want are not in the sale. M&S are craps for mens' sales...

Good Luck! They'd helpfully sorted shoes out into size order, one size per shelf iyswim - although it took me a few minutes to notice they'd done this (doh!)

I've been to my local store and spent the grand total of £13 - it was rubbish.
Save yourself the hassle and do it on-line instead x

Bah, no shoes for me! Only in size 3.5

I did get half price undies though and some smellies for Christmas/birthdays through the year. And the Monopoly set that looks like a hardback book that I have coveted for weeks :D

Recently got back from Next and M&S. Next was reasonably well-organised. At least all their sale stock was priced up. My issue was that they hadn't brought out the 'petite' suits that I normally stock up on on in their sale. When I first asked where they were, the assistant asked a manager, who loudly told her to tell me that I would have to look for them myself! Nice.

I couldn't find any anywhere, so went and got some of the homeware instead. When I was paying, I asked again about the petite suits - and was then told they 'might bring them out later in the day' if I cared to call back. No thanks - going once and queuing up before 5:00 am is enough for me.

Then on to M&S, where the staff were only just starting to put the sale prices on - and clearly were not keen to be interupted to be asked how whether certain items were in the sale and how much they were. One assistant was vey snappy with my sister. She only asked whether men's shoe were likely to be reduced.

We were disappointed with M&S compared to last year. Not much in the sale (at least when we were there) and there weren't the bargains like we got last year.

I'd say we each spent about a quarter of what we spent last year.

Oh - and to cap it off nicely, the cafe was only selling filter coffee and tea - no food until after 8:00 am. So our plans for a nice breakfast there were scuppered too.

I think M&S should have delayed opening until 8:00 am - so at least they could have got all the stock on the shopfloor with the sale prices on. We were made to feel a nuisance for getting in their way.
