is there a BT plan for free evening+weekend calls and no line rental?

I am sure that's what I heard Martin advise a woman a week ago I think on a show he was on. I heard something like the BT Saver or something like that plan. I am on NTL but only on it as there is no line rental, but if there is a price plan to get BT without line rental i would be interested.

All BT call packages require you to take line rental. Also as far as i am aware NTL charge line rental as well,of at least £10.50p a month. What package have you got that has free line rental?

I think you might be talking about him recommending Just Dial Saver. This is only available to BT customers where you CPS your calls to JDS you get Free E&W calls .But you still pay BT line rental of £11 a month.

Unless I am mistaken and you are on a special deal, this is a common misunderstanding with NTL. It may have been created as years ago (when C&W in our area at least) their sales pitch was that if you took their television package, you got a phone line free. As years have gone on, they have changed their marketing slightly but it is still slightly unclear (I am being kind!) as they advertise their television pack, for example Family pack at £19.50* - with the * indicating that for TV you have to also pay for a telephone line at £10.50. Roughly (there are offers around and people seem to be on different deals!), NTL TV +phone line equals the same price as Sky plus BT line.

In a nutshell, you don't need a BT line as you already have NTL that you are paying for! Could be worth contacting NTL as they have a deal on at the moment for free evening and weekend calls for a year for new customers, but some existing customers have secured it (see thread at the top of this home phones board). Otherwise, we use Onetel for evening and weekend calls (they had a promotion last year free for a year - currently £3.99 a month or free for weekend calls only) and 1899 (www.call1899.co.uk) for cheap calls when they are not free on Onetel.
