Hello
Now that christmas is all done I want to make a start on my sons very special 1st birthday party which is on 30th of January
I try my best to be an organised person but end up rushing at the last minute and I really dont want this to happen with his birthday I want it to be extra special.
I would love some ideas from other mummys
as I am not sure where to start really.
Thank you

Is there anyone out there that could offer a lending hand
Please :-)0 -
Let's be realistic - a child isn't going to remeber his first birthday. Any effort you put in will be for yourself, not for the child. It's absolutely pointless trying to make it 'special' - unless you want to show off to others over how much effort you put in for your child compared to their efforts for their children.
Wouldn't it be better to simply spend a day with the child, playing, talking and generally doing all the things that parents do with their children? Certainly, that would seem to be more special to a 1 year old than a big party, none of which is going to be remebered anyway? From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
Every child regardless of age will enjoy a party, loads of bright colours and people making a fuss of them.
I remember my daughters first birthday, it was mainly family but we still held it at one of the wackys and at a year old she was well aware of what was going on.
First of all, write out a brief list of who you would like to invite, where would you like it to be? If there aren't a large amount of people then perhaps you could have it at home, just make sure there are lots of balloons, bright/bold paper plates, cups, serviettes that sort of thing and nice pop music in the background.
Don't forget the camera
Edit: food will mainly be for the older guests but perhaps some soft food your little one can happily munch on (and drop onto the carpet when he finds something more interesting lol)0 -

Chances are she does that most days of the week.0 -
A 1yo is not going to remember a party at all - although, yes, they may enjoy it at the time.
I have never had 1st parties for any of my 4 and won't for this one either - they have all had a cake and relatives round for tea though. I have instead added what I would have spent to the present fund and bought a single extra special pressie. Each one has had a teddy bear. A proper jointed, growling bear. And each one is loved to bits. And each one will be kept for always.
Its a bit of a wincing moment though, when you can spend £100 on a bear for a child and you have to be careful of what to buy. I do have a good local bear shop that sells collectables mainly as well as "usable" bears.0 -

one thing i will say is have a good reliable camera to take loads of photo's! my daughter loves looking back at the ones of her first birthday party. we had a quiet party with just close family there at my house, had a buffet and the main focus was having my daughter open her presents. i didnt do party bags for my nephews, i just opted to get them lucky bags from wilkinson and they were happy! you can get 1st bday decorations off ebay from trustworthy sellers.0

We just had close family and friends to our house with a few nibbles on the saturday after our daughters birthday - she liked having the attention of everyone and trying some new foods such as sausages, wee pizza breads etc. On her actual birthday she was in nursery, had a party there with a cake of course and then the granparents came to visit at night before bedtime.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

Why not have a party - everyone can then join in celebrating the life of your lovely little boy. If that's what you want to do then i think it's unfair for others to be scathing about it. I hope you have a very special day xJust £10,852.28p to go...
Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
And then do it.0 -
I'm not a Mummy yet but my when my friend's children have turned one they have celebrated in various ways.
One friend took her daughter to the zoo for the day to look at all the animals and just spent some quality time together as a family. Another friend did the same thing but at the Farm Park.
A couple of my friends have had little tea-parties at home, there have been a few close family members and friends and we have been baloons, banners and a nice buffet tea with a yummy birthday cake and a couple of party games for the older children.
My best friend did both..sort of... On her daughters actual birthday she took her to the zoo with just her, mummy and daddy and took a picnic. Then on the Saturday after her birthday she had an "Open House" She put up a few balloons and banners, put out some cakes, crisps and sweets and just told people if they wanted to pop in and see her daughter as it was her birthday they were more than welcome to come over between 12 and 6 and stay for a cuppa and cake. It was lovely and not to overwhelming for the baby.
Whatever you decide to do, take loads of photo's and enjoy the day with your son! x:love:11th March 2010- Got engaged to my amazing fiance, planning our wedding for 20120
