Xbox 360 profiles

Help - my son got an Xbox 360 yesterday and when he originally switched it on he set up a profile. Today we have signed him up to Xbox live but instead of his original profile now being upgraded to be online he seems to have 2 diferent profiles one for offline and one for Xbox live - is this right?

Thats correct
When Xbox Live isn't connected (Like if you don't want to) you can still sign in and use that profile 0
